Photos: Mysterious healing river appears in Enugu state

A River with 'healing
powers' (according to the people of the
community) mysteriously appeared in a
community in Enugu State called Nachi, in
Udi LGA. The river, now called Orimiri Jordan
(River Jordan) was first seen on Nov. 11th.
Continue..
According to reports, a Fulani Herdsmen first
spotted the river and ran to people in the
community to alert them of the discovery. He
told them that as he passed the area with his
herd of cattle, he heard a strange noise, and
when he turned back, he saw the river that
wasn't there previously.
The community went to look for themselves
and discovered that the water has healing
powers. But the traditional ruler of Nachi
community said something slightly different.
He said the river appears every 20 to 30
years but dries up after a few weeks so it
wasn't anything new.
An elder in the community explained:
“We noticed that after some years, the
water will form a stream there and
would disappear in few weeks. If such
happens, we will be fetching water there.
However, women who are menstruating
and evil people don’t go there. We never
heard about healing power of the River
until this recent appearance of the
River.
“The last time it appeared was in 1992,
and at that time, it just formed a small
stream, which later disappeared. It has
never been as large as this. This is all I
know, we have never known about its
healing power, this is the first time we
are hearing about healing, I don’t
whether it is true”.

100-level Student To Die By Hanging In Benue

A Makurdi High Court, on Tuesday,
sentenced a 100-level sociology student
of Benue State University, Jacob Atongo,
to death by hanging for armed robbery.
In his judgment, Justice Adam Onum, held
that he was satisfied with the confession
of the accused to the charges and
therefore, found him guilty.
Onum sentenced the accused to death by
hanging, insisting that the sentence
prescribed under the law for the offence
must be followed.
Atongo conspired with two others and
robbed Stephen Akuma, and several
others at gun point on June 26, 2012.
The convict and his accomplices robbed
Akuma of his Toyota Camry car with
registration number Benue AID 39 AA and
other victims of valuables, including
various sums of money.
He also attacked Judges’ Quarters,
Makurdi on July 3, 2012 and robbed no
fewer than 15 people, dispossessing them
of various items and money at gun point.
The offences contravened the Robbery
and Firearms Laws.
During the proceedings, the accused
pleaded not guilty to the charges and
testified for himself along with one
witness called by his counsel.
In statements, according to the
prosecution, the convict confessed to the
commission of the offences.
But counsel to the accused, Mr E.Z.
Agbakor, argued that the prosecution
failed to prove the case against his client
beyond all reasonable doubt.
Agbakor told the court that the accused
did not make the statement tendered in
court voluntarily, insisting his client was
tortured and forced to confess to the
offences.

ASUU Boss Urges Vcs Not To Force Lecturers Back To Work

Vice Chancellors have been advised not to
adopt coercive and forceful strategies to get
lecturers to resume work.
Dr Busuyi Mekusi, Chairman of ASUU at
Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko
(AAUA), Ondo State, gave this advice in an
interview in Abuja on Tuesday.
``We are also pleading with the university
administrators not to illegally employ
impromptu lecturers.
``They should also not announce fake
resumption dates or disrupt the meetings of
ASUU members on campuses.
``Such measures will not abate the already
frosty relationship between the union,
government and the university authorities,”
he stressed.
He called for the convocation of
`institutional summit` as a way of starting
the take-off of a rebirth process for public
institutions in Nigeria to become more
effective.
He said social transformation would not
succeed unless the Federal Government was
strongly committed to entrenching strong
and independent public agencies.
``We must not continue to deceive
ourselves that governance, democracy and
politics will reach enviable heights with the
kind of public institutions in place.
``The truth of democracy as the expression
of the people’s will and aspirations will come
alive when Nigeria has public institutions
that have not been politicised,” he stressed.

"I don't need foreign assistants" says keshi

The Super Eagles head coach insists that there
is no need for the employment of a foreign
technical adviser for the national team for the
Brazil 2014 Fifa World Cup
Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has maintained
that he won’t be in need of assistance from
any foreign technical adviser for the Super
Eagles towards an impressive outing at the Fifa
2014 World Cup.
The former Malian gaffer said he is taken aback
hearing people talk about the appointment of a
foreign coach when he did not use any to win
the Africa Cup of Nations or to qualify for the
World Cup.
"I don't need any foreign technical assistance
to guide the Super Eagles to perform well at
the World Cup so if one is suggested I will
politely reject the offer because I already have
capable assistants working with me,” he told
Complete Sports
"Let them (those clamouring for it including
the NFF and NSC) provide us an enabling
atmosphere and requirement and we shall get
the job done in Brazil. We are not saying we
shall win the World Cup but we shall make an
impact,” concluded Keshi.
Keshi and his assistants are being owed seven
months salaries.

Henry, Pires only training with Arsenal

Arsene Wenger did not entertain the idea of
bringing the players back to the Emirates
Stadium, insisting they are simply training with
his side to keep up their fitness.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger confirmed
that former stars Thierry Henry and Robert
Pires, who are both currently training with the
club, will not be considered for a return in a
playing capacity.
The two Frenchmen have been training at the
club's London Colney base over the past week,
leading to speculation that they could be re-
signed by Wenger on playing contracts.
However, the Arsenal boss clarified the
situation in his Monday press conference ahead
of Tuesday's visit of Marseille in the Champions
League.
Wenger said: “They like to come back to
Arsenal, to practice. When they can join in,
they do. They integrate well with the spirit of
the team. Nothing more than that. They have
no real target to bring something, they just
want to enjoy themselves and keep their
fitness. Usually they don’t practice with the
first team because they come in and work on
fitness.
“It is a little bit less competitive, [but] when
we have some room we invite them to play
with us, but usually they train separately to
us.”
Henry is fresh from a successful season with
the New York Red Bulls, who he helped win the
Supporters' Shield before they lost to the
Houston Dynamo in the Eastern Conference
semifinals, while the 40-year-old Pires has
been a free agent since departing Aston Villa in
May 2011.
Discussing a potential future role at the club
for Henry - who has already made one loan
return to Arsenal since leaving the club in
2007 - Wenger added: "No, at the moment he
is invited just to practice when he wants. We
have a big staff, a very competent one, and we
have the right number to support the team to
achieve the targets. Thierry is a player. One
day certainly it will be different, but at the
moment, no.”

Police Kill Seven Robbers In Edo

Seven suspected robbers were shot dead,
Sunday, along the notorious Benin by-pass,
during a gun battle between the police and the
robbers.
The operation was personally led by the Edo
State Commissioner of Police, Mr Folusho
Adebanjo.
At press time, the CP and a special squad of
detectives were still combing the area popular
referred as haven for robbers. Some of the
robbers, according to CP Adebanjo, were still
in the bushes with bullet wounds.
As at 10:30am when the bodies of the dead
robbers were brought to the Edo State Police
Command, one of the robbers who identified
himself as Sanda from Kebbi State, was still
alive and he confessed that he only joined his
dead colleagues for the first time, because he
needed money to go back to Kebbi State.
One AK 47, cutlasses and assorted charms were
recovered from the armed bandits. It would be
recalled that passengers and drivers have been
robbed almost on daily basis along the Benin
by-pass, while in most cases the women among
the passengers were Molested by the armed
bandits who are mainly Hausa Fulanis.
However, Adebanjo who is known for his zero
tolerance as regards activities of robbers in the
state narrated that “this operation took place
at about 5:30-6am. Because we noticed that
arm robbers who operate there always come
out early hours when people are travelling or
going to the market for their businesses.
Their activities along that by-pass have become
an embarrassment and with intelligence which
we gathered, we laid an ambush.
“What happens is that they normally come with
a bus where they load themselves and when
they get to the by-pass they distribute
themselves to different locations to perpetrate
their evil. You will look at the bus as an old
one, maybe you will even think they are going
to the farm but they are dare devil armed
robbers.
“You that the by-pass leads to different states
but unfortunately these hoodlums made that
place haven for operation. So we stormed
there this morning following a tip off, we met
them and engaged them. They engaged us too
the result is what you are looking at now.
Some of them are still in the bushes with
bullet wounds, my men are still there pushing
them and I am going back there myself
because we are going to round all of them up.
“Armed robbers cannot be safe anywhere in
Edo state. That is the message we have for
them throughout this festive period and next
year” he asserted.

Man Drowns In Lagos While Swimming To Win A Bet

A 25-year-old man, Toheeb Jimoh, has
drowned in a Lagos river while reportedly
swimming to win a bet.
He had allegedly bragged that he could swim
the Lagos Lagoon from a particular point to
the shore on Saturday evening.
It was learnt that when some people
challenged his claim, he had allegedly dared
them to place a bet. After the bet was placed,
he reportedly went on a boat to the point and
jumped into the lagoon hoping to swim to the
shore.
Friends of the deceased, who had
accompanied him on a boat, were said to have
fled the scene after he did not make it out of
the water.
The incident, which occurred at Aiyedun
Street, Bariga, was said to have caused
commotion among residents who trooped to
the site, hoping to save Jimoh.
The corpse of Jimoh was said to have been
recovered around 7pm same day and buried
beside the water around 12am in line with the
traditions.
Our correspondent learnt that the late
Abeokuta, Ogun State indigene, had only
recently gained admission into the University
of Agriculture, Abeokuta before the tragedy
struck.
A source who spoke on the condition of
anonymity said, “He and some of his friends
were actually fond of betting and gambling. So
that evening, they decided to take the betting
to another level. Toheeb told them he could
swim from the Third Mainland Bridge end of
the river to the shore.
“When the boat they took got to that point,
which was a little close to the shore, he gave
his clothes to his brother and jumped into the
water.
“His friends who were in the boat waited for
him at the shore without success. After it
dawned on them that something was amiss,
his younger brother raised the alarm. By the
time people got to the scene, he had died.”
When PUNCH Metro visited the site where the
incident took place, he observed that the
scene was directly under the Third Mainland
Bridge.
Leaves, pure water sachets, and other dirt
were seen floating on the river shore. The
area was mainly occupied by shanties and
make-shift structures.
Residents of the area refused to comment for
fear of being implicated.
When our correspondent visited the Jimohs on
Ajenifuja Street, he was told they had traveled
to complete the burial rites. Their bungalow
was also quiet, while the street was deserted.
A resident on the street, Tiamiyu Abdullateef,
said the deceased was highly pious.
He said Jimoh had earlier gone on a boat to
“play a game with his friends”, and returned
without any incident.
Abdullateef, however, said the deceased
merely went to the lagoon to defecate after
he became pressed.
“Then, he decided to swim and wash his body.
His brother, Wale, waited at the shore. When
he was swimming back, he just lost breath,
and was exhausted. His brother saw him
drowning but did not suspect that anything
was wrong until it was too late.”
When our correspondent visited Bariga Police
Station, a senior official told him that the
police heard about the case informally.
The officer, who spoke on the condition of
anonymity because he was not permitted to
speak for the police, said, “It was not
reported here, and there is little we can do
although we heard of it,”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi
Braide, said she was in a conference and
promised to call back.

Things To Consider Before Buying A Laptop

Buying a new laptop computer can be both
frustrating and expensive. Technology is
growing with times, a sign of transformation.
Same can be in computer world, previously we
used to be happy with PC but now the whole
criteria are changed as people are upgrading
themselves for using Laptops. Recent years
showed advancement in Laptops and the
reason behind increased purchasing trends is
its portability which makes it easy to use and
moving from one place to another without
applying efforts. So people prefer the use of
Laptops over Personal Computers because of
several reasons including upcoming
technology, portability, etc. But, often we get
baffled when it comes to purchasing new
Laptops.
Often, we are deceived by purchasing the
system which is not self-reliable to use. So,
before buying a new Laptop,
things to consider before buying a new laptop
are below :
1. Specifications:
This is the initiative point one should keep in
mind before buying a new Laptop. Technical
specifications include system’s hardware and
software ingredients which is the basic things.
One should check out the RAM capacity, Hard
Disk, Processor, Video Card, etc which
ascertain a Laptop’s reliability or otherwise. If
its capacity is low, then you will obviously
suffer fluctuations like frequent hanging up of
system and so on. So, it’s recommended to go
with such master piece which is derived with
at least 4 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Disk, Dual
Core i5 processor including one Graphic Card.
So, before purchasing any Laptop, put this into
consideration.
2. Structure and Durability:
The next priority to keep in mind is Laptop’s
structure which includes size, durability,
weight and so on. The main purpose for
selecting net book is its portability and if the
size for same is lumpy, then there’s no catch.
So you should see whether the device is handy
or not. You should also think of its weight;
normally, a system weighing about two
kilogrammes is pretty to determine the
reliability and portability.
These two factors even determine the
durability of system. Users with harsh working
tendency always need that device to endure
surprising shocks. So, the laptop must have
extra tough metal covered, to ensure no
internal damages are done to the hard disk,
processor, etc. Thus, if you are completely
satisfied with the structure of a Laptop, then
go for it.
3. Battery Life:
The Battery Life is directly or indirectly the
first need of any user. If the device’s battery
system is of poor quality, then one will face
many inevitable problems. The very first thing
to do as a customer is, first ask about the
Laptop’s battery life. So one should check and
enquire about maximum support the Laptop’s
battery will give. Standard need is 10 hours or
as per usage.
4. Price and Budget:
Every person has its own budget, and one
should buy Laptops bearing same in mind. For
instance, if your budget is 25, 000 and you are
dreaming of a device which costs 50, 000, this
is calling for avoidable debts. So, in such case,
you should concentrate on main functions
needed for your use. In cheap price you can’t
enjoy latest technology but can surely seek out
functions which are basic and required one.
5. Other Specifications:
Other things include connectivity, user guide,
display resolution, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB ports,
etc. These are the required specifications
which users should keep and things to consider
before buying a new laptop ,For new and fairly
used or london used laptop if you need we can
direct you to a best shop in Abuja, and any
place you are ,do not hesitate to drop your
comment if any,on our drop box.

the Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS) of

Edo Assembly Suspends LG Boss Over Illegal Trip Abroad

The Edo State House of Assembly
yesterday suspended the Chairman of
Orhionmwon Local Government Area of
the state, Chief Roland Ibierutowhen, for
allegedly using the council’s fund to
junket his family and 12 counsellors to
Italy.
In a move that signaled the anti-
corruption and no-nonsense attitude of
Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s
administra-tion, the lawmakers also
announced the suspension of the
Chairman of Uhunmwode Local
Government Area, Mr. Roland Alari. Alari
was alleged to have assaulted a councillor
for some undisclosed disagreement at the
council secretariat.
The legislative House acted on a petition
letter sent to it by the Orhionmwon Youth
Congress (OYC) in which it accused
Ibierutowhen of junketing all over Italy
with his wife and daughter as well as with
the 12 councillors on public expense. The
youths had taken their anger to the
Benin- Onitsha Highway, protesting what
they described as the inappropriate trip.
The placards-carrying protesters with
various inscriptions such as “Stop looting
Orhionmwon treasury,” “Develop Abudu
with our money,” and “Probe
Ibierutowhen now,” said their action was
informed by the information at their
disposal that Ibierutowhen, who was
supposed to be at his duty post at Abudu,
went frolicking in Italy with his family and
others at public expense.
They, therefore, called on Governor
Oshiomhole, the Assembly and the
Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC) to probe the council
chairman for prosecution.

Youths protest arrest of Jigawa gov’s sons

Thousands of youths under the
umbrella of National Volunteer for Lamido
2015 took to the streets of Dutse, the Jigawa
State capital, protesting the arrest of two sons
of Jigawa state governor, Sule Lamido, by the
official of Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, EFCC, last week.
The two sons, Mustapha and Aminu Sule
Lamido, were arrested last Thursday at their
residences in Kano for alleged N10 billion
money laundering.
Efforts  by Governor Lamido and his associates
to see that the EFCC released the two accused
on bail proved abortive.
It was learnt that two senior lawyers have
taken over the case with the longest serving
lawyer for Lamido, Mr. Offiong Offiong (SAN)
heading the team.
The state coordinator of National Volunteer for
Lamido 2015, Malam Musa Gambo Guri, who
addressed the crowd in Dutse, said the arrest
was political, aimed at tarnishing the image of
the governor.
He said this would not deter them from
supporting him to vie for the office of
president in 2015.

‘Why I Can Never Marry A Poor Man – Empress Njamah Opens Up

Nollywood actress, Empress Njamah as
with many celebrities has been trailed by
different scandals.
Despite the enormous controversies that
almost denied her the limelight, she is still
able to keep her head up.
In a recent interview, the actress reveals that
she can never settle down with a poor man.
See excerpts from the interview:

What’s your dream man like?

Let me tell you something about life, I will
not come here today and tell you I want a
God-fearing man, he must be tall, he must be
this, he must be that.  I have once said
something about what I want in a man, and
then the person I fell in love with was the
exact opposite. You cannot dictate feelings,
you cannot dictate emotions, that’s why
there’s something called love at first sight,
you cannot tell.
I’m not going to clone a man that I want.
There is this thing called chemistry, once you
see it, you know it. I won’t come here and
tell you that he must be tall and he must
have six packs, I’m not crazy about that, so
basically what I want in a man are what I’ll
probably see at that point and what’ll attract
me at that point.

S o you are saying you can settle for any
man whether rich or poor?

I’m not going to tell you what I want. But you
get into an expensive shop to pick up
something because you can afford it. You see
something you can afford, then you buy it
but if you cannot afford it, take a walk.
The goods are for someone that can afford it,
that’s the best I can tell you. I will not settle
for less, my sister and that’s the truth.
People come and tell you all sort of lies and
want to praise themselves and say “I can
marry a poor man” the poor man no know
wetin him see, abeg!
I dey tell una say I am a real person, we all
have been through tough times, we all have
paid our dues one way or the other. So no
poor man must get close to me. Those who
know the worth pay the dues.

“Why I Had s*x With My 11-Year-Old Daughter” – 35-Year-Old Man Opens Up To Police In Osun

The Osun State Police Command has
arrested a 35-year-old vulcaniser,
Ademola Simiyu, of Ile Olode in Ikoyi for
allegedly defiling his 11-year-old
daughter.
Simiyu, a father of three, allegedly committed
the act on Wednesday, October 23, when he
woke up the girl at about 12 midnight while
she was sleeping with her siblings and
forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
The suspect was said to have stifled the cries
of his daughter by covering her mouth with
his palm. The girl reportedly started bleeding
heavily but the father refused to take her to
the hospital, out of fear of questions that
could be raised concerning the bleeding.
But his deeds came out in the open on
October 24 when the girl reportedly told her
mother what her father did to her during the
former’s visit to the girl who had by then
fallen sick.
Crime Reports gathered that when the case
was reported to the police, detectives
immediately took her to the hospital for
medical examination and treatment.
When interrogated by the police, Simiyu was
said to have confessed to the deeds, saying
that he did not know what came over him. He
also revealed that he married the girl’s
mother in 2000 and they had three children
between them but that they had lived apart in
the last two years because of a
misunderstanding they had, saying that he
had been the one taking care of the children.
It was gathered that the medical report
indicated that the girl had coital bleeding
while vaginal examination revealed laceration
in her vaginal wall, with foul smell and
discharged altered blood coming from it. The
report also indicated that her hymen had
been torn and there was tenderness around
her vulva and pelvis.
Confirming the incident, the state Police
Public Relations Officer, Folasade Odoro, a
Deputy Superintendent of Police said that the
Commissioner of Police, Dorothy Gimba, had
directed that a diligent investigation should
be conducted into the case, decrying the high
number of defilement and r*pe cases within
the society.
Meanwhile, Crime Reports learnt that the
suspect had been charged to Court 4, Osogbo
Magistrates’ Court on a three-count charge.
Though he pleaded not guilty to the charges,
the magistrate ordered that he should be

I Can’t Forget The First Time I Made Love To My Wife – Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde’s Husband

Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade-
Ekeinde’s husband, Captain Matthew
Ekeinde in a recent interview with
Entertainment Express talks about his
wife and their marriage.

What is the secret of your 17 year old
marriage to Omotola?

I won’t say we have been good because I am
a fine boy (laughs), but it is just the grace of
God. I am so lucky and also blessed by God to
have married my God given partner.
That is a very important thing about
marriage, you have to find and marry your
God given partner. That is why a lot
marriages breakup. Some men marry women
because of their hips, their b**bs, legs and
some other side attractions. But after s*x
with her so many times, what happens next?
Does she have a good attitude, character or
good human relationship with others?I am
not saying we are perfect couple, we have
our own differences but we are compatible.
We have been married for over 17 years with
four beautiful kids. One thing that has been
working for us as a couple is that I always
encourage her to be who she wants to be. I
give her full support always. Lots of married
women that are caught cheating on their
husbands could be traced to the fact that
some of their husbands don’t allow them
explore their talents.
I encourage my wife and kids to be what they
want to be. Most of the influential men and
women we have in this world didn’t even go
to school. So it is all about exploiting your
talents. Some women love acting but their
husbands won’t let them believing that other
men would touch or exploit them sexually. It
is all about discipline. Those that want to
cheat will cheat; it is all about self control.

So when you see your wife kissing on set,
you don’t get jealous?

No! Not all. My wife tells me about her
acting. Most times she even complains that
some actors she acts love scenes with have
mouth or body odour that she can’t wait to
leave this scene.  So I even pity her on what
she has to go through and endure being an
actress.
This acting thing is just some minute acts and
that is it. Will she follow the actor home?
Lots of homes have been broken because of
too pressure on the wife or even the kids.

For the 17 years that you have been
married, what are those special moments
you can’t forget in a hurry?

Hmmm! Truly and honestly, I can’t forget the
very first day I made love to my wife.

Chidinma miss kedike: “I’m Still A Virgin”

Earlier today, a s*x tape with the female
participant having a striking resemblance to
the petite Nigerian music star was released
and went viral on social media.
Apparently the Chidinma look-alike was
shown to have been having vigorous s*x with
an unknown young man, but the person who
released the tape is still at large and
unknown.
In a statement Chidinma denies the s*x tape
vehemently and told reporters that she is still
a virgin.
In her own words, “I didn’t make any s*x
tape o, I have no idea where that tape is
from and I am still a virgin o!”
However she didn’t stop there, she also said
she will sue the person who uploaded the
video and the people who made the video for
slander.

UI, ABU, Others Support Suspension Of ASUU Strike

More units of the Academic Staff Union of
Universities, including the University of
Ibadan and Ahmadu Bello University
chapters, have voted for the suspension
of the strike by the union during chapter
congresses held nationwide.
The union met with a Federal Government
team led by President Goodluck Jonathan
last Tuesday in Abuja.
Government has promised to inject
N220bn yearly into the public universities
for the next five years.
The ASUU leadership, after briefing the
zonal coordinators on the offer, had
directed the local branches to organise
congress meetings between Friday last
week and Tuesday (today).
This is to enable all the lecturers to make
input into the action the union would take
after its NEC meeting on Thursday.
As at press time on Monday, 20 of the 28
chapters that had concluded their
meetings supported the suspension of the
strike, while the remaining eight preferred
that the varsity teachers pressed on with
the strike.
The teachers in the University of Abuja,
for instance, supported the suspension of
the strike but listed conditions that must
be met by the Federal Government.
A source at the meeting on Monday said
the congress demanded that the withheld
three months salaries of the lecturers
must be paid.
“Members also demanded for
commitment on funding. We also want
assurance from government that no
lecturer will be victimised on the account
of participating in the strike. We also
asked that the template for sharing the
earned allowance should be prepared
within the next two weeks,” the source
added.
The conditions were the same for
Nasarawa State University, which voted
for continuation of the strike.
Chairman of ASUU in the school, Dr.
Theophilus Lagi, told our correspondent
after the congress that as far as his
members were concerned the strike
should continue.
He said, “There are certain grey areas that
must be cleared. The ‘no work no pay’
policy must be sorted out. Government
must pay lecturers the arrears.
“We also need evidence that the N200bn
that government promised to release this
year is in the central bank. We are not
going to suspend the strike until the
money is there and available for sourcing.
That is the position of the congress.
“Nobody trusts government. They have
been making promises since 2009 and
nothing has been implemented except the
N30bn earned allowances.
“Secondly, the 2009 agreement is due for
review; nothing has been said about that.
Lecturers have been denied salary for
three months, those monies must be
paid.”
Among the universities that supported
that the strike be called off are Ahmadu
Bello University, Zaria; Federal University
of Technology, Minna; University of
Lagos; University of Ibadan; University of
Calabar; University of Port-Harcourt;
Federal University of Technology, Akure;
Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto;
and Ekiti State University.
The list also include the Federal University
of Technology, Owerri; Delta State
University; Bayero University Kano; Imo
State University; Federal University of
Agriculture, Abeokuta; and Olabisi
Onabanjo University, among others.
On the other hand, majority of lecturers
at the University of Benin; and University
of Jos wanted the strike to continue.
However, in the Bauchi zone of the union,
five universities voted for continuation of
the state strike, while the remaining three
threw their weight against the
continuation of the strike.

UNIJOS, 5 other Universities Voted For Continuation Of Strike

Lecturers at the University of Jos have voted
for continuation of the on-going strike by
the Academic Staff Union of University
(ASUU) in the country.
Chairman of the chapter, Dr. David Jankam
who made this known on Monday while
speaking with THE NATION shortly after the
congress of the chapter said members did
not see any substance in the dialogue with
the federal government to warrant calling
off the strike.
According to Dr Jankam, “We have just
rounded off our meeting, as a matter of fact
our members voted overwhelmingly for the
continuation of the state strike.
“I can also confirm to you that five of the
eight universities that made up the Bauchi
Zone of ASUU has also voted for
continuation of the strike, and the general
saying is that the federal government has
not shown any commitment so far.
“We started the meeting by briefing our
members on issues resolved with the federal
government in their last meeting with the
president of ASUU.
“But in responding to the briefing, our
members observed that the main issues that
led to the strike were not discussed as part
of the meeting in Aso Rock.
“As such my members said president
Jonathan is taking them for a ride by trying
to divert attention from the core subjects of
the strike”
According to Dr. Jankam, “I will now convey
the resolve of our branch to our national
president in our NEC meeting scheduled for
this week. If the majority of the chapter
voted for call off, it will ne called off, but if
majority of chapters voted for continuation,
so be it” said Dr. Jankam.

ASUU Strike Called Off.. Students To Resume On the 18th of November 2013

This has been making the rounds that the
4months old ASUU strike has been called off
but not just announced yet and student would
resume November 18, 2013.
Read the full story below;
A source close to top guns in the Academic
Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU) has
revealed that lecturers will ditch their four
month old strike this weekend so students
could resume on November 18 (next Monday).
The source said there was no way the union
could reject the new offer of N220bn a year
tabled by President Goodluck Jonathan during
a marathon meeting with ASUU last week
Tuesday.
ASUU had come out of that meeting to tell
Nigerians it needed time to deliberate on the
new deal and reach a consensus among it
members before talking to the press. A top
official of the union, has however said the
government could not be trusted even on the
new offer, and that ASUU’s members were
divided over the government’s offer.
He, however raised a beam of hope by saying
the majority still decided to give the
government the benefit of the doubt. As ASUU
executives meet this Wednesday, if the fate of
the strike is down to a vote among the
striking lecturers, as suggested by ASUU
chairman, Nasir Fagge, the four month old
impasse may surely end this week.
ASUU went on strike July 1 over the non-
implementation of a 2009 agreement it had
with the government with a key component of
the memorandum of understanding the
allocation of 26% of Nigeria’s total budget to
education.
Although the government is planning to
allocate just 9% of the 2014 budget to
education, ASUU now seems set to end the
strike after government offers that would
surely boost lecturers’ take home pay and
improve varsity infrastructure.

Lionel Messi on 2 months hamstring injury

Lionel Messi has been ruled out for up to
eight weeks after suffering a hamstring
injury in Barcelona's 4-1 win over Real
Betis on Sunday night.
Messi limped off after less than half-an-hour
and could be absent for up to two months
after scans revealed the full extent of the
problem in his left hamstring.
The Argentinian playmaker will miss the
upcoming international friendlies against
Ecuador and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Barcelona have already qualified from the
group stages of the UEFA Champions League,
but Messi will be absent for a number of La
Liga matches.
The world player of the year has been
hampered by hamstring issues and also
damaged his left one earlier in the season
and then the right one at the end of
September.
A club statement read: "According to the
club's medical services, the tests taken on
Monday morning by Leo Messi have
confirmed that the player has suffered a torn
muscle in the femoral biceps of his left leg.
"The approximate time he will be out is
between six and eight weeks.
"The first part of his recovery will take place
in Barcelona and the second, in Buenos
Aires."
Barca team-mate Cesc Fabregas has pulled
out of the Spain squad after he also sustained
a knee injury against Betis.
Fabregas netted twice before being withdrawn
and Spain boss Vicente del Bosque has
decided to rest him for friendlies with
Equatorial Guinea and South Africa.
Defender Marc Bartra, another Barcelona
player, has been drafted in to replace
Fabregas and the 22-year-old will be hoping
for his first senior cap.

7 Illegal Refineries Destroyed By The NSCDC In Edo

Seven illegal refineries were destroyed in Edo
State between January and November 2013,
Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil
Defence Corps, NSCDC, Edo Command has
disclosed.
Soeaking in Benin City, Mr Chike Ikpeawonwu,
said three of the refineries were destroyed in
Iluoke and three in Agbede, both in Etsako
West Local Government Area while one was
destroyed at Abudu, in Orhionwon Local
Government Area.
The commandant also disclosed that 25
trucks loaded with crude from vandalised
pipelines, were confiscated by the command
within the same period.
According to him, 15 of the confiscated
trucks had, however, been destroyed, before
the directive stopping the burning of seized
trucks with crude was issued.
“There is a standing order from Abuja that
any truck impounded should not be burnt
again, in order to avoid economic waste,”
Ikpeawonwu said.
While decrying the activities of vandals in the
state, the commandant, however, said lack of
logistics posed enormous challenges to
effective operation of the command.
Ikpeawonwu, who said the command was
poised to curtail the activities of vandals
therefore called for synergy between NSCDC
and other security agencies in the state for
effective war against pipeline vandalism.
The coomandant noted, however, that one
way of reducing pipeline vandalism in the
country, was by building more refineries.
“Our mandate is to protect government
critical infrastructures and that is exactly
what we are doing now.
“Nigeria is losing billions of naira to pipeline
vandalism and we must ensure that activities
of these vandals are contained.
“It is very sad to know that individuals can
sabotage government efforts just to get
themselves rich through pipeline vandalism,”
he said.

Nigeria Grants Citizenship To 174 Foreigners

The Federal Government on Wednesday
granted Nigerian citizenship to 174
foreigners.
Briefing journalists after the weekly
meeting of the Executive Council of the
Federation, FEC, chaired by President
Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday, the
Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, said a
breakdown of the applications submitted
included those from 45 ‘Niger
Wives’ (foreigners married to Nigerians), and
129 from persons that were born by
naturalised Nigerians.
Mr. Moro said another 27 applications were
rejected and were not approved by FEC
because “they did not meet the basic
requirements of tax payment and ability to
live their lives in Nigeria without being
economic burdens and security problems”.
“A series of factors were taken into
consideration, but much more importantly
the issue of security that have become very
serious consideration especially when
foreigners from countries that are prone to
violence such as Lebanon and Syria apply to
become Nigerian citizens,” the minister
said.
The minister also criticised Nigerians who
were losing faith in the country.
“We are in this country losing some level of
faith in the viability of Nigeria, on the
brightness of the future of Nigeria given
the level of potential that we have in this
country today by some Nigerians and cynics,
especially opposition political parties or
persons creating an impression that Nigeria
is gravitating towards a failed state.
“Yet we have foreigners who have very
serious economic interest in Nigeria who
have lived in this country, some since
independence who are eager to become
Nigerian citizens by taking into
consideration the economic viability and
potential of Nigeria and hoping that their
lives can better be lived in this country as
Nigerian citizens than citizens of their
countries,” he said.
Mr. Moro said the applicants were from
diverse countries as Venezuela, Mexico,
Thailand, South Korea, Cameroun, Syria,
Lebanon, Greece, India, and Singapore.
According to a working document of the
FEC, the Interior Minister had presented a
memo to Council seeking approval for the
report of the cabinet committee to review
the recommendations of the Advisory
Committee on Nigerian Citizenship (ACNC)
for the grant of Nigerian citizenship to
foreign applicants.
The council had inaugurated a seven-
member committee to review the
recommendations for the ACNC on the
grant of the Nigerian citizenship. The
committee then concluded its assignment
with a report to council.
The EFCC also submitted its report on the
79 applicants referred to it in 2012; and
recommended only 51 out of the 79
applicants for citizenship.

TB Joshua Delivers Nneoma Ukpabi From Overdue Pregnancy

Nollywood actors and actresses are really getting
it the way they want it with TB joshua's ministry
as apart from now he has delivered the likes of
the late Enebeli Elebuwa , Camilla Mgberekpe,
Jim Iyke etc; and now its actress Nneoma
Ukpabi.
Mrs Nneoma Ukpabi is a Nollywood actress who
had the problem of an overdue pregnancy (10
months). She had previously undergone two
Caesarians for her other children. She was again
booked for an operation for the third time
because her placenta could not support the
baby.
The doctor stated that she could not undergo
normal labour because it could become life
threatening. A lady encouraged her to pray and
believe in God and brought out the Anointing
Water stating that it was from the SCOAN.
The lady ministered it to her in the name of
Jesus Christ and 15 minutes later the first stage
of labour took place as blood and water gushed
out. She was taken to the hospital where she
later delivered the baby safely without
operation. The doctor was surprised that she
delivered the baby safely without the operation
she was booked for. She is now happy with her
two months old baby girl, what a miracle!

Woman Delivers Baby In A Keke Napep

A 28-year old herbal concoction hawker,
popularly known as Paraga seller, Basirat
Ogundeji, has been delivered of a baby girl
inside a tricycle popularly known as "Keke
Napep" at Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos State,
southwest Nigeria.
It was gathered that Basirat went into labour
when the bus she boarded at Ikeja on her way
back home developed fault and was being
repaired by the bus driver at a bus stop in
Oregun.
It was learnt that when she could no longer
bear the labour pains, Basirat quickly sought
the assistance of a woman who was selling by
the roadside.
Basirat, with the assistance of the woman,
took a tricycle to Oregun Flagship Primary
Health Centre but she gave birth while they
were on the way to the clinic.
It was also learnt the baby’s placenta was
later removed by the nurses on her arrival at
the clinic. The mother of two, while speaking
with our source on her hospital bed at Oregun
Public Health Centre, said she came to Lagos
after her boyfriend refused to take
responsibility for the pregnancy.
“ I already had a child for somebody before I
met the man that impregnated me at Aiyetoro,
Ogun State. He said he loved me but when I
told him I was pregnant, he gave me some
money to abort the pregnancy and I decided
to come to Lagos to make ends meet.
“I knew I was due for delivery that day but I
had not bought anything for the baby yet. In
fact I had no money on me that day and I
decided to go and meet a woman at Ikeja who
owes me.
“That morning I had to trek to Ojota, begged
fo transport fare to Ikeja but unfortunately, I
didn’t meet the woman and I was very
confused. I begged for money again but could
only raise N50.
“The bus I boarded from Ikeja enroute Ojota
developed fault midway. We were at the bus
stop when I felt a sharp pain in my tummy.
Then I knew it was time for me to give birth,”
she said.
She commended the management and staff of
Oregun Public Health Centre for their
hospitality and all the well meaning Nigerians
that came to give her items for her baby.
“I never expected to get the kind of positive
treatment they gave me here. They were all
homely. The nurses were nice people and
people have been coming in to donate gift
items to the baby,” she said.
She added that once she’s discharged from
the hospital, she would go back to her village
in Ogun State, southwest Nigeria.
